- Mail: You have to mail the professor a few months prior to your holiday beginning. Your main focus in the mail should be to convince the professor that you have genuine interest in the subject and are highly motivated to work in that field. Some tips for improving your chances are;
- Find out the professor with area of interest, similar to yours.
- Try to find out the ways you can contribute to their projects.
- Convince the professor that you are the perfect fit for any requirement on project.
- Keep your mail properly structured and short. Remember, prof. don’t have enough time to read lengthy mails. Most of the time they don’t even open it and all your effort goes in vain.
- Keep following up your mail at regular time. This shows them that you are not just spamming, and you are genuinely interested in working with him/her.
- Mail: You have to mail the professor a few months prior to your holiday beginning. Your main focus in the mail should be to convince the professor that you have genuine interest in the subject and are highly motivated to work in that field. Some tips for improving your chances are;
NOTE: Don’t give up! Getting a positive reply from professors can take ages. As I said, most of them don’t even open your mail and even if they do, they generally don’t reply. You should keep looking out for opportunity and find similar professors with similar interests and mail them.
- Fellowship Program: Most of the colleges have this fellowship program for proper and formal intake of interns for assisting researchers/ Professors on their projects. They will release the notice a few months prior to the start date. Follow the institute website and keep looking out for any notice from that institute. The process will be simple and will require a few official signatures from your college staffs. Your selection in such process is mainly dependent on your statement of purpose and CGPA.
- Meeting In person: Students and professors don’t generally like this option. Meeting professors directly can be little tricky. The professors can take a small test of you right at that moment and you will not have any time to prepare. If you impress him then you might get an intern the same instant and if you fail, then you will lose it altogether. Keep this your last option.
